A word of welcome – Fáilte Romhat

newsletter-2019-november-10thnewsletter-march-31st-2019Welcome to the Parish of Glenfin (Kilteevogue) set among the hills of Donegal. Our parish has approximately 330 homes and is at the very centre of the County of Donegal. Part of the parish is also a Gaeltacht where the ancient Gaelic language is spoken by many. Mar sin tá fíor chaoin fáilte romhat agus tú ag tabhairt cuairt ar ár bparóiste atá suite i measc shléibhte Dhún na nGall. Within the parish we have two magnificent Primary Schools where the children are given every opportunity by their dedicated teachers to master their fluency in Gaelic. Some children from our parish attend another primary school at Dooish within our neighbouring parish of Stranorlar. We also have a Heritage Centre dedicated in memory of two very special people who were very important to this community in the days of yore, namely the historical figure of Sir Isaac Butt, a native of the parish and a doctor who dedicated the best years of her life to taking care of the medical needs of the people of the area namely Dr. Nancy McGlinchy. Next door to the Heritage Centre is a beautiful building, home to a very modern Health Centre and a Day Centre that are both in constant use. Many of the older members of our community come to the Day Centre several days a week to meet with their friends and to share food and recreation with one another. On the first Tuesday of every month a very successful music session takes place in the Day Centre that draws participants and patrons from far and near. Within the parish also are two graveyards. The ancient graveyard of (Cill Taobhóg) Kilteevogue is on the banks of the River Finn, right beside the fine facilties of Glenfinn G.A.A. fields and club house, and the new graveyard of Cill Mhuire is close to the Parish Church. Visitors are always welcome to our parish. Thank you for visiting us today by way of our website. Go raibh maith agat as do chuairt orainn. Try to make use of our links page especially in which we will try to link you with other interesting and informative sites around the world. Please let us know if we can improve our page in any way. You can always tune in to our parish ceremonies on live streaming. But we will always be very glad when you pay a personal visit at any time. Come back soon. Tar ar ais chugainn gan mhoill.  Fr. Lorcan Sharkey.
